Mission Statement

Aurora Social Rehabilitation Services is a community non-profit organization serving adults with mental illness and or intellectual and developmental disabilities in Central Pennsylvania that facilitates recovery among those served with opportunities for empowerment and self-direction through life skills training, educational programs, Social Rehabilitation and Psych. Aurora History

Aurora Social Rehabilitation Services is a community non-profit organization providing services for adults with mental illness and mental retardation for 50 years.

With Social and Psych Rehabilitation centers in Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg and New Bloomfiels, ASRS provides support services, activities and hot meals to a vulnerable population throughout Central Pennsylvania.

Aurora Social Rehabilitation Services was established in 1962 by the National Council of Jewish Women, Church Women United, Catholic Volunteers and the Tri-County Mental Health Association. ASRS was one of the first community organizations to provide support to consumers of mental health services in Central Pennsylvania.

Funding for Aurora comes from the departments of Mental Health and Mental Retardation of Cumberland/Perry and Dauphin Counties, Private and Corporate Foundations, and individuals.

Contributions from concerned individuals make the work of our agency possible. Your support enables us to keep our doors open seven days a week, provide daily hot meals, recovery programs, , bi-lingual activities and much more.

Aurora Social Rehabilitation Services is a 501 c(3) non-profit organization. All contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.  You may donate on line by clicking on the Donation Link above.

2011 Review:  Key Initiatives

 

Completed or Started Goals:

  • Implementation of a Social Rehabilitation Program in Northern Dauphin County.  Two (2) Wednesday a month. 
  • Implementation of Social/Psycho-Education Latino Women’s Rehabilitation Program.  Two (2) Thursday evenings per month.
  • Implemented Psych Rehabilitation Program in Mechanicsburg and Perry Centers. 
  • Implements Mobile Psych Rehabilitation in Harrisburg.
  • Implemented consumers run programs that include:  Consumers preparation of meals (all three (3) centers), Consumer operated Snack Bar (Hbg. and Mechanicsburg, limited in New Bloomfield); Consumer run Coffee Stations.
  • Adopted and provide Community Service and Outreach Program in Dauphin and Perry County.  (Caitlin Smiles)
  • Developed a Mobility Training Program (Instruction to ride CAT) in Dauphin County.
  • Center Community Picnic. 
  • Independent Center News Letter (Harrisburg).
  • Computer Training Programs in all Centers.
  • Relocation of Perry office to New Bloomfield.

Staff Accomplishments:

  • Two Staff completed Psych Rehabilitation Certifications.
  • Entire Staff began attending Social and Psych Rehabilitation Training Classes.
  • Two Staff completed Psych Rehabilitation Orientation Class.
  • One Staff obtained her Peer Specialist Certification and one other has begun training classes.
  • Drumgold Office relocated to New Bloomfield.
  • Harrisburg Program Coordinator developed a Community Service Outreach Program.
  • Harrisburg Centers Therapy Dog obtained his certification.
  • Expand Social Rehabilitation in Northern Dauphin County.
  • Mechanicsburg and New Bloomfield initiating innovative social programs in their centers.

Short Term and Long Term Goals:

  • Obtain Psych Rehabilitation Certification:  Target Date-December 2012.
  • Additional Peer Specialist Certification:  Target Date-June 2012.
  • Peer Specialist obtaining their WRAP Facilitators Certification:  Target Date-June 2012
  • All Staff completing the Psych Rehabilitation Orientation Training:  Target Date-May 2012.
  • Expansion of Social Rehabilitation to include Psycho-Education Programs and the development of more consumer oriented recovery programs:  Target Date-February 2012.
  • Continued Development of a Community Service Outreach Programs.
